About Transition Support

Established in 1999, Transition Support was formed to  assist organizations achieve improved business performance through the application of process management and related methodologies. The Directors of Transition Support are David Hoyle (author of the ISO 9000 Quality Systems Handbook) and John Thompson (originator of the GPR principle).

David Hoyle has over 30 years experience in quality management. He held managerial positions with British Aerospace and Ferranti International. As a management consultant; firstly, with Neville-Clarke Ltd and before forming Transition Support Ltd, as an independent, he guided such companies as General Motors, Civil Aviation Authority and Bell Atlantic through their ISO 9000 programmes. He has delivered quality management and auditor training courses throughout the world and published five books with Butterworth Heinemann on ISO 9000, some of which have been translated into Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin. Since establishing Transition Support he has worked with a number of organizations in applying the process approach to management and written a wide range of supporting publications. He has participated in various committees of the Institute of Quality Assurance (now the Chartered Quality Institute) and was a member of IQA Council from 1983 to 2000. Formerly a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society he is now a Honourary Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute and Vice Chair of the its Standards Development Group.

John Thompson is an experienced management consultant in business improvement and over a 20 year period held management positions in Unilever, RHP Bearings, Mars and Caradon. During the last 12 years, and prior to forming Transition Support Ltd, he was in management consultancy as a Director of Neville-Clarke Ltd and GPR Consultants Ltd. He has assisted organizations in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia in their business improvement activities, including the use of ISO 9000 Baldrige, Singapore Quality Award and EFQM frameworks. He has assisted many organizations develop improvement strategies and apply the process approach to system development and to auditing. These included the Anchor Trust, Mars, TRW and MAFF and advising the MTTA on the machine tool industry Step Change initiative. Initially trained as a Statistician, he has undertaken post-graduate studies in Business Administration and an MA in Human Resource Management. Since establishing Transition Support he has introduced process management into a number of organizations including W.S. Atkins, Thales and Nottingham City Council.
